I have bought four of the commercial action 640s from Simpsons that had barrel or stock issues, as I only wanted the donor action.
#1891 argentine mauser markings series
The Husqvarna 1600 series of rifles were all built in Sweden and are all small ring commercial 98 actions, some have alloy bottom metal and some have steel bottom metal. Military style large ring 98 actions built by FN, these have a thumb slot in the left receiver rail.Ĭommercial style large ring 98 actions built by FN without the thumb slot in the left receiver rail. "Strengthened" small ring pre-1898 style commercial actions that were "strengthened" by omitting the thumb slot on the left receiver rail. Standard 1894/1896/38 small ring pre-1898 style military actions. The Husqvarna 640 series of rifles were built on three (3), maybe four even four (4), different actions: If you're looking for a used commercial LR 98 FN-made action or a used Swedish-made Husqvarna 1600 series action to build on, Simpson LTD might be a place that you want to look. Simpson LTD in Galesburg, IL, imports used European sporting rifle in shipping container lots. I also like the Brno VZ-24's but it's much harder to fined them in really good shape, IME.īut I really prefer a nice FN commercial action if they are available, unfortunately, I don't have any rifles with an FN action.
DWM did a fine job on those if you can get a clean one. I don't particularly like the looks of a stock 1909 trigger guard either it needs the floorplate release to have some weld put on it, re-shaped & some cosmetic grooving cut into it, & of course, it needs the wide, thick bow re-shaped & thinned down.Īs for 1909 actions, IMO, they are somewhat preferred because they can be found in really pristine condition more easily than some of the other desirable versions.
Yes, they need to be re-shaped quite a bit in order to really look good.takes a lot of time & it's all pretty much manual. The Oberndorf ones with a lot of metal in the front look bulky to me, except maybe with a drop-mag.
